Let’s talk about raw files!

I know this is something that is super controversial in both the photographer and client world. But I wanted to use today’s blog to educate you on the reasons why most photographers will not actually give you the raw files.

Firstly let’s talk about what a raw file actually is. So a raw file isn’t just the unedited version of the picture but is actually a huge file of unprocessed and processed data. It’s uncompressed data that is used in an external program such as lightroom or photoshop. Which is used to process an image to its fullest potential.

With that in mind you need a program to even open a raw file. Sending and receiving raw files requires a huge amount of space which most people don’t have unless they work in photography or digital media etc.

Most photographers won’t send through raw images for both of the reasons above however there are a few more reasons why they won’t either. A raw files is not a true representation of the photographers work. Photography is an art and a raw file is an unfinished canvas. It’s the bare minimum.

It’s like being sold an unfinished product.

As a fellow photographer. We want your experience with photography to be a completed process. For you to receive quality artwork at the end. For your experience to be ingrained in the final products.

So please don’t get offended when your photographer won’t give you the raw image as you’re hiring them to create art for you and an enjoyable experience.

Hopefully this blog gives you a little bit of insight as why most togs avoid giving out raw images.

It can be overwhelming for everyone when it comes to the day of family photos. Especially for toddlers and young children. But here at Dreamy Moon Photography, our aim is to create the smoothest experience for you and your family. So here are a few of our favourite tips and ticks to creating an easy photoshoot! Tips

The best thing you can start with is gently preparing and building up excitement for your toddler. Explain to them that you’re going to get pictures taken. Let them play with a toy camera or a real old one if you have that on hand. Get them involved! This will help build up anticipation and excitement and give your toddler an element of control and security.
We suggest planing something fun to do after the shoot, for example getting an ice cream. This helps those young children who don’t really want to participate have something to look forward to, because let’s face it. Everybody loves ice cream (we recommend the cream at donut time in Burleigh)!
Now we definitely have a few studio tricks up our sleeve and that is setting up a fun bubbly atmosphere. Here at Dreamy Moon we love playing your Child’s favourite music. Getting the bubbles out and even our little squeaky to that seems to make all the kiddos laugh!
Finally our biggest tip is to stay calm and surrender to the outcome. Children are their own individual autonomous beings. Sometimes truely and autheicallyl capturing the moment makes for the best photos to cherish and look back on! We love a good candid picture over here, something that documents the phase of life that you’re in.

New props

We can’t start the month of October off without getting a few little props! Or in our case accessories. We love supporting local vendors and small Australian businesses. Which is why we always try to shop as local as possible!

I feel like when you run a business that involves babies, it’s so easy to continuously upgrade the client closet because everything is so cute! Of course we want to also have new upgraded things for our clients to use too!

So let’s jump straight into the little haul!

We were really vibing the blossom and pear range at the moment. So we got on the band wagon and purchased the sweetest little over sized bow in the colour muted pink. This is such a versatile piece for newborns all the way to cakesmash babies. It has the perfect amount of stretch to accommodate for most baby sizes.

This little head band will be perfectly paired with a little white romper or dress. Or even a neutral coloured newborn wrap! We can not wait to use it in our next photography session.

All the accessories!

The second little accessories that we purchased was the sweetest little hand knitted bonnet. In the colour beige. This will be perfect for 6 month old sessions and sitter milestones. It will pair perfectly with any neutral outfit or even the cord knitted onesie that we have in our client closet.

We also went a little over board on Christmas mini decor but you’ll have to read our Christmas blog to find out all about the goodies!

How exciting! it is almost that time of the year again! This year has honestly gone so fast for the Dreamy Moon Photography family! And now it is almost Christmas time… We love Christmas, I mean who doesn’t? But there is honestly nothing more exciting than being apart of the festivities and capturing the moments of your babies first Christmas and your children’s reaction to all the magic that December brings about!

Of course we will be doing our annual Christmas mini sessions. This year we are offering both studio and outdoor sessions. We just picked up a few new Christmas themed props too! Who can’t forget about Mrs Clause, she will be back offering a feminine alternative to Santa! Someone that the kids can be super comfortable with!

Outdoor Christmas minis are the perfect alternative to the standard shopping centre Santa photos. You will be allotted a private time slot where you do not have to line up for ages! The best part of it all is that this year you will be able to select your favourite images and have the option to add more if you choose so.

We have specifically selected our Christmas minis to be photographed at the end of October. That way you will have plenty of time to organise gifts and have your images back in time for Christmas!

We love Cake Smashes – Gold Coast QLD Newborn Photographer | Miley’s Cake Smash

We love cake smashes at Dreamy Moon Photography! When Jana got into contact with me about her baby girl ‘Miley’s’ first birthday coming up. Of course we had to organise a cake smash photoshoot! With this photoshoot jana wanted to incorporate Miley’s special birthday dress. So of course we picked some props to compliment it. Think cream, pink and lace. With a few bouquets of florals and a prop we put together the perfect set up for the shoot!

Miley came through on Saturday to capture her first birthday Cake Smash Session. She was beautifully dressed in her little pink dress that her big brother (age 3) purchased for her when she was younger. Miley had the most beautiful curly brown hair and big brown eyes. She communicated so well through her actions.

The set up

We set up the studio with a whimsical and Lacey set up. A tiny bed draped in a lace layer and some beautiful dried flowers enhanced the overall look. First we captured some milestone photos with Miley in her special pink dress. Then we did an outfit change for a little bit of variation. We did a quick outfit change into a white lace romper so Miley’s special dress would get ruined.

Adding in a beautiful cream cake in, Miley enjoyed smashing and tasting all the different flavours. When given the cake. She was super expressive with her face and gave the cream sponge cake a decent tasting! Which was absolutely adorable. Photographing the most candid moments, we snuck in some giggles and smiles! After shooting some milestone photos and the cake tasting. It was time for the splash bath to conclude the session!

The perfect way to celebrate…

Cake smashes are the perfect way to celebrate that first year of your baby. They are getting bigger and more independent. Their little personality is more defined and is so beautiful to be captured at this age. Dreamy Moon Photography has a range of props, backdrops and outfits for your session.

Gold Coast QLD Newborn Photography | Teodora’s Cake Smash Album – This is the most stunning album ever!

Teodora is the most photogenic baby we have photographed in the studio. Full of giggles and laughter. Her bubbly personality was contagious and shined throughout her images.

We are so pleased her parents selected an album to showcase her beautiful personality. Click here to get a sneak peak into the viewing appointment video. Their reactions are absolutely humbling!

The Album

Well Teodora’s album finally arrived in the studio and it is everything we imagined. Light airy, bright and white. Big blue eyes and smiles full of life.

The album holds 30 images over numerous spreads. A flatlay album was of choice. This album consistently showcases the storyline of Teodora’s cake smash session. Starting off with her milestone images. Dressed in an all white romper, a bonnet and use of the moon prop. Followed by the cake smash itself. And lastly the splash bath.

We filmed an album sneak peak over on our Dreamy Moon Photography YouTube channel.

It’s cake smash time…

It was time to do another cake smash session! Alvin’s mum ‘Ine’, got into contact with the studio to organise a cake smash session. After seeing her friend’s baby, recently having a shoot done. It sparked inspiration. Recently capturing Miley’s cake smash session, we had to of course do her best friend Alvin. They will both have precious photos to look back on in years to come.

Ine and I spoke on the phone and discussed all about themes and finer details. Alvin was so excited to come into the studio and do a cake smash session!

We decided on a neutral colour palette, with a pop of blue/ green tones. Almost sage colour… So of course I had to run to the local shops and source some decorations for the session. Such a fun part of the job, sometimes it can turn into a complete creative cyclone!

The decorations were paired with some sweet cream naked cake and some neutral / green outfits. We had our theme put together. On a side note, I have been totally obsessed with instagram and TikTok Woolworths cake hacks and were dying to try it on for this session.

Okay, Okay back to Alvin’s photoshoot…

Alvin and Ine arrived in the studio. Alvin was such a happy bubbly little boy. He was happy to interchange his outfits and get a great variety of milestone pictures.

Once we brought the cream naked cake into the shoot and placed it in front of Alvin. Alvin went ham! He loved the cake and was picking the whole thing up. Smashing it everywhere. It was the epitome of a cake smash! We capture some fantastic candid shots of Alvin.

To conclude the cake smash session we brought out the splash bath. With a touch of bubbles and a crumb or two of cake. Alvin enjoyed the last moments of his cake smash. Splashing around and blowing bubbles.

What do you wear?

You’re so excited, you have your session booked for your indoor or outdoor photography session. If you haven’t had photos taken in the past, this must be very new for you. Even slightly overwhelming. You not only have to organise yourself, but your partner, children and maybe family pet too! Family:

I’m starting off with the largest to organise and that is your family session clothing guide. The key here is to coordinate your colour pallet rather than being matchy, matchy. Pick a few tones that collaborate nicely and base your outfit around them. I will post a few example below of exactly what I’m talking about. Never underestimate the power of textures! Textures make for great visual appeal in your photos and when added in subtly, it can make the world of a difference.

What to avoid!

We want your photos to be timeless and of course this is just our suggestion that you can take with a grain of salt….But this is a few things we tell our clients to avoid wearing.

No logos, logos are distracting and can outdated become outdated quite quickly.

Avoid harsh patterns, this can sometimes be unflattering.

Now this is just our preference but avoid bold, bright colours.

Okay now that we’ve gotten that out of the way let’s move onto the babies!

You probably know by now that our main niche of photography are babies. Which is why we have a full client wardrobe to have you covered. But the same rules as above pretty much apply to our littlest humans too.
