Let’s talk infertility and then let’s talk about secondary infertility. Because I didn’t even realise that was a thing until I went through two years experiencing secondary infertility.

Firstly, I feel you! It is so hard… Watching everyone around you having healthy babies or being questioned when you will have a baby. It can be so lonely, heartbreaking. Test your strength, resilience and relationship. You’re really forced to know your priorities. I wish infertility didn’t exist. But it does! Infertility is an increasing issue amongst adults who are wanting to start or extend their family. With all the environmental toxins and other leading causes of infertility such as PCOS, hormonal issues, endometriosis or poor quality sperm. It’s not a surprise that more and more people are finding it difficult to have a baby.

So let’s talk about some of the proactive steps you can take to increase your chances of having a baby.

Let’s start with lifestyle.

Exercise, diet, mental state and low tox living is crucial to making sure your body is in the best state to hold and grow a baby. Working along side your practitioner, whether that be a naturopath, gp, gynaecologist, acupuncturist or kinesiologist etc. Whatever modality you choose to go down. Really utilise your resources before opting into IVF treatments. Sometimes it’s the minor adjustments that make the biggest differences.

Rule out everything:

Hormones

Blood work

Ultrasounds

Sperm tests

Family history

But also don’t be afraid to get second and third opinions. You know your body best!

So let’s talk about secondary Infertility…

This is the inability to fall or maintain a pregnancy after having a full term baby. Secondary infertility affects 12% of couples, which is 1 in 8.

We spent two years trying to figure out the reason to our secondary infertility. After multiple chemical miscarried and a 9 week miscarriage. It came down to a hormonal imbalance. By increasing my progesterone levels I was able to hold onto my pregnancy. We ended up giving birth at 41 + 1 weeks to a healthy baby girl.

Burleigh Heads QLD Newborn Photography | Must have list for new mums

As a first time mum, you want to be so prepared of the arrival of your new bubba! We spend so much time planing, nesting and preparing to make sure we have everything we need for this new bubba. But it can be overwhelming when it comes to getting it all together.

Firstly let’s put a few things together for the first few weeks of postpartum because mama you have to look after your self too. Now I’m not your most conventional person. I love a great low-tox alternative. So be prepared to have some different options.

For the mama…

Peri bottle – the Kmart sauce squirter is perfect for the job.

Yoni steaming herbs – add into peri bottle to aid with healing.

Slippery elm and olive oil paste- helps with tears or grazes.

Castor oil and heat pack – to warm to womb

Warming womb tinctures

Black sesame seed oil – rub on womb

Bonding herbal tincture – helps with mother baby connection

Congee, broths and stews – easy, nutritious postpartum meals.

Pads, pads, pads and more pads

Witch hazel peri spray – antibacterial spray

Bluey pads – to catch any bleeding

Haaka– help catch your breast milk

The first 40 days book – amazing postpartum resource. In fact I wrote a whole blog post about it

Okay now that we have mama sorted, let’s move on to baby.

A milk source – if you are choosing to breastfeed, perhaps consider some nipple balm or a pump. Alternatively if you choose to formula feed, you will have to get some bottles and a steriliser.

Something to catch the poop and wee – cloth nappies, disposable or even elimination communication. Our favourite style of cloth nappies are bare and boho. We also love the clean cloth nappy method for cleaning and sanitising your nappies. As for disposables. Tooshies by toms, rascal and friends and naty nappies are amazing natural brands.

A safe place to sleep. This could be a bassinet, cot or co sleeper.

A car seat. Hey we have to drive around, right?

Some warm clothes, zip onesies are a must!

Loads of cuddles!

Sometimes we over complicate what our baby really needs but I love to bring it back to the basics.

Gold Coast QLD Newborn Photography | Willow’s Newborn Session

Willow’s dad, Josh reached out to me in regards to organising a newborn session for his brand new baby daughter. It’s so lovely when dad’s or other family members are so excited to celebrate and capture their new editions! Josh and I got straight into planning for his daughters newborn session. Josh and his partner expressed that they wanted peach and cream tones for baby Willows session. The perfect set up came to mind and we discussed all the props and accessories that we could incorporate into Willows session.

The Session

Nevertheless baby Willow and her family arrived at the studio, to a beautiful peach and cream inspired set up. We used the fine art backdrop from intuition backgrounds to help set the scene. Adding in some natural toned baskets and the cane pram was the perfect edition for baby Willow’s shoot. Willow was the most calm baby ever! She stayed asleep the entire session and loved being swaddled. We accessorised her with a few different floral and soft feathered head pieces. Weighing just over 6 pounds Willow was a little ‘doll’.

Furthermore Willow’s older siblings were totally smitten by her. Lastly at the end of her session we incorporated some sibling and parent shots. It is such a blessing to be able to capture a baby’s first moments. Above all it is even more of a blessing knowing that families will forever treasure moments like these! I love seeing families bond together when they experience their photography session. Watching the little interactions between older siblings and their new editions is just the best!
