There is a very large spectrum of quality and price ranges when it comes to photography and more specifically Newborn photography. Have you ever wondered why that is when every other industry is more consistent with their prices and standards. Industry standards

Firstly lets talk about the industry, as this will give you a bit of a foundation into the way photographers choose their pricing models.

As there are no regulations and pre qualifications to get into photography. It is actually a really easy business to just start. You can simply, create a Facebook business page and literally start charging clients. But that does not mean you can run a sustainable and legitimate business! These amateur photographers who are charging very cheap sessions and are just starting out. Most likely have very little to know experience or skills when it comes to handling your newborn. Which can be a major risk to your baby’s safety.

A photographer who has invested into their education, safety training, equipment, sustainable business plan, insurances and other legal requirements. Will be charging a higher amount in comparison to someone who is just running cheap Facebook photo sessions. When you choose an experienced and established photography business, you are paying for a specialist. You are also paying for guaranteed safety and consistency in quality.

When choosing a photographer, look beyond the price… Are you selecting an established and reputable business?

Disclaimer: Every baby, child and person is beautiful before & after editing. Editing is used as a tool for artistic enhancement.

Let’s talk about raw files!

I know this is something that is super controversial in both the photographer and client world. But I wanted to use today’s blog to educate you on the reasons why most photographers will not actually give you the raw files.

Firstly let’s talk about what a raw file actually is. So a raw file isn’t just the unedited version of the picture but is actually a huge file of unprocessed and processed data. It’s uncompressed data that is used in an external program such as lightroom or photoshop. Which is used to process an image to its fullest potential.

With that in mind you need a program to even open a raw file. Sending and receiving raw files requires a huge amount of space which most people don’t have unless they work in photography or digital media etc.

Most photographers won’t send through raw images for both of the reasons above however there are a few more reasons why they won’t either. A raw files is not a true representation of the photographers work. Photography is an art and a raw file is an unfinished canvas. It’s the bare minimum.

It’s like being sold an unfinished product.

As a fellow photographer. We want your experience with photography to be a completed process. For you to receive quality artwork at the end. For your experience to be ingrained in the final products.

So please don’t get offended when your photographer won’t give you the raw image as you’re hiring them to create art for you and an enjoyable experience.

Hopefully this blog gives you a little bit of insight as why most togs avoid giving out raw images.

This previous weekend, some of our Christmas Mini families came into the studio to view and select their favourite images. Turning them into Albums, Prints, Folio Boxes and so much more… To create timeless memories for years to come.

We all had so much fun creating everlasting memories of Christmas 2022. The children were so excited once they saw the warm lights, aspen Christmas trees and all the festive decorations!

Each family came in for their mini session, where we spent 10-15 minutes capturing all the joys and laughter. Ages ranged from 3 months old to 8 years old and of course some of the parents jumped ion for photos too. We had bubbles and Christmas music playing and at the end the kiddos received a special Dreamy Moon Photography gift bag. Their faces lit up when the saw the little pressie.

We are spoilt with choice on the Gold Coast, when it comes to family, baby and newborn photographers. There are so many different styles from lifestyle, to studio, fine art and so much more!

But it can definitely be a little overwhelming when choosing the photographer that will be best for you and your family!

So in today’s blog, I wanted to share with you some handy tips to choosing the best photographer for your needs. And the difference with booking into Dreamy Moon Photography in comparison to everyone else on the Gold Coast.

Firstly it’s important to know what type of shoot you want. Whether that be newborn, cakesmash, family, wedding ect. The list goes on.

Once you have that down pat, you can have a little think about what style you gravitate towards. Do you love indoors, outdoors, light and airy, moody, creamy, high end.

This will give you a great visual representation on who you should gravitate towards. Style is the most important thing in my opinion!

Next you should discuss a budget. Is this a once in a lifetime photo shoot opportunity such as newborn photos (they’re only young for so long), where you should splurge a bit.

The set up theme

We have opted for a classic red and green themed Christmas Mini Session this year! Featuring two beautiful aspen trees, layered in golden lights. A sleigh for babies and toddlers, which is perfect for both sitters and non sitters. Finally an assortment of rustic Christmas decor.

Bookings

With limited spots available and a handful of slots left, these Christmas Mini Sessions are booking out fast! We are only offering one date this year, which is October the 23rd. How exciting! it is almost that time of the year again! This year has honestly gone so fast for the Dreamy Moon Photography family! And now it is almost Christmas time… We love Christmas, I mean who doesn’t? But there is honestly nothing more exciting than being apart of the festivities and capturing the moments of your babies first Christmas and your children’s reaction to all the magic that December brings about!

Of course we will be doing our annual Christmas mini sessions. This year we are offering both studio and outdoor sessions. We just picked up a few new Christmas themed props too! Who can’t forget about Mrs Clause, she will be back offering a feminine alternative to Santa! Someone that the kids can be super comfortable with!

Outdoor Christmas minis are the perfect alternative to the standard shopping centre Santa photos. You will be allotted a private time slot where you do not have to line up for ages! The best part of it all is that this year you will be able to select your favourite images and have the option to add more if you choose so.

We have specifically selected our Christmas minis to be photographed at the end of October. That way you will have plenty of time to organise gifts and have your images back in time for Christmas!

Indoor & outdoor Santa mini sessions sign-up’s are here! Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd October Only!

Our annual Santa Session at the pine forest are back! These sell out almost immediately every year. Sessions are first come first serve. Payments are required in full to reserve your time slot. These are up to 10 minute sessions, you’re receiving 5 images and they’re $75.

This year you will have the option to choose your own images, as well as purchase additional prints and products.

Indoor session have also been requested. The set up will be different from last years session. These sessions are also great for young babies and children as you will have access to studio props.
Sessions are first come first serve. Payments are required in full to reserve your time slot.

These are up to 10 minute sessions, you’re receiving 5 images and they’re $75.

Want to expand your options?

This is the perfect alternative to avoid those people packed shopping centre, Santa sessions. Alternatively if you would love a longer session or something a little bit unique such as Santa on the beach than you can always book in a private family photoshoot too!

It’s the little memories, Burleigh Heads QLD Newborn Photography | Milestones

Okay, this is going way too fast! And I know I write about this all the time in the blogs. But I really can’t stress how you blink and time flies in that first year of having a baby! It’s like the days are long but the years are short. Some days feel like ground hog day but you look back at the picture and your baby has grown astronomically. What once was a little bundle of curliness is now the biggest squish ever!

So Arnhem-Sol is 4 months old and to celebrate we photographer her monthly milestone photos. Now let’s be real she did not want her pictures taken. Even when encouraged by her big brother. Who absolutely is smitten by her and always wants photos taken with her. So of course we had to get some of Theo too.

I managed to distract her with a toy and placed her in our favourite rattan prop. Which is great for newborns and sitters. Dressing her in a white Two Darlings onesie and a peach coloured lace bonnet. She looked like a little doll. We were able to get a few candid images of the two, which is always so precious.

Milestone photos are the most sweetest as it showcases how much they change over 12 months.
